The Annual Day celebration of Vonisha Service Foundation, held on 24th November 2024 at St. Ignatius Public School, Begur, was not only a celebration of student achievements but also an opportunity to honor the dedicated staff and faculty who play a pivotal role in the foundation’s success. During the Felicitation Ceremony, the chief guests recognized the relentless efforts of the teachers and staff for their invaluable contributions in shaping the future of the students. Annual Day Celebration 2024

The Annual Day Celebration of the Vonisha Service Foundation was held on November 24, 2024, at St. Ignatius Public School, Begur, bringing together students, parents, teachers, and special guests for a day filled with joy and cultural expressions. The event began with a warm welcome to esteemed guests, followed by a ceremonial lighting of the lamp to signify the start of the festivities. Students of all ages, from early childhood education centers to grade 10, showcased their talents through drama, dance, and skits. Mrs. Shailaja Patnaik, the Project Manager, presented the annual report, highlighting the foundation’s progress, while Dr. Naga Subramaniam introduced the chief guests. A felicitation ceremony honored teachers for their dedication to education. The program was hosted by Mr. Kigan D’Souza and Ms. Srinidhi, who kept the audience engaged throughout. The event underscored the foundation’s commitment to promoting education, cultural inclusivity, and community engagement. Independence Day 2024

On August 15, 2024, the Vonisha Service Foundation commemorated India's 78th Independence Day at St. Ignatius Public School with a lively and heartfelt celebration. The event, which was graced by distinguished guests such as Ln. Manjunatha, Satish Kumar, Richa Rakesh, and Chief Guest Dr. Ananth Ram, began with the hoisting of the Indian flag. Students displayed their creativity and spirit of patriotism through a range of performances, including a mass drill, fancy dress competition, skits, and dances, all celebrating unity and national pride. Highlights included a graceful dance by 10th-grade girls, an energetic "India Wale" performance by grades 6-8, and a powerful patriotic skit by older students. The celebration concluded with Dr. Nagasubramaniam, Co-Founder of Vonisha, presenting mementos to honor both the esteemed guests and the enthusiastic young participants.

Remedial Learning Program Graduation Ceremony 2024

On June 22, 2024, the Vonisha Service Foundation proudly celebrated the Graduation Ceremony of its Remedial Learning Program at St. Ignatius Public School, Begur, marking a significant milestone for the students. The event kicked off with the traditional lighting of the lamp and an invocation song, setting a solemn and uplifting tone for the day. Distinguished guests, including Air Commodore Anjali Alam, shared their inspiring journeys, emphasizing the value of education and personal development. Mr. N. Narasimha from Dover India Pvt Ltd. and Mr. Atul Bhat, Senior Director at CoreLogic, also delivered motivational speeches, encouraging the graduates to pursue their dreams with passion. The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of diplomas, where each graduate was honored by the Chief Guests, Vonisha Service Foundation Co-founder & Managing Director Ms. Venkateshwari, Co-founder Dr. Naga Subramaniam, and Project Manager Ms. Shailaja Patnaik. The graduates were celebrated with cheers and music, making the moment even more special. A heartwarming moment occurred when CoreLogic donated school uniforms to the children, further embodying the spirit of community. The ceremony concluded with the inauguration of the 2024-2025 batch of the Remedial Learning Program. The foundation expressed its deep gratitude to all the guests, teachers, students, and volunteers, whose support made the event a resounding success, reinforcing its mission to empower education and enrich lives.

COVID-19 Relief Activities

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Vonisha Service Foundation's volunteer team, led by Co-founder and Managing Director Mrs. Venkateshwari and Co-founder Dr. Nagasubramaniam, extended a helping hand to migrant populations and underprivileged communities in slum areas. In this critical time, they visited these regions to distribute essential items such as rice bags, vegetables, rations, health supplies, and other necessary goods. The relief activities were carried out as a selfless service, aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by these vulnerable communities during the lockdown. The Foundation's efforts provided much-needed support and relief to those most affected by the crisis.

Classes Conducted During COVID-19 Pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Vonisha Service Foundation took proactive steps to ensure that its students continued their education. Teachers reached out to children in the slums and gathered them in small groups while maintaining social distancing measures. To facilitate this, the Foundation rented five small spaces temporarily to provide in-person education for students enrolled in the Bridge Program, Back to School Program, and NIOS Program. In addition to these face-to-face classes, teachers also conducted online classes, ensuring that all students had access to learning, regardless of the circumstances. These efforts helped keep students engaged and on track with their studies during a challenging time.

Out Of School Children Survey

Since 2017, Vonisha Service Foundation has been dedicated to bridging the educational gaps for out-of-school children and dropouts through its Remedial Learning Program. As part of this initiative, Vonisha volunteers recently conducted a survey in the slum areas of South Bangalore, identifying numerous children aged 6-14 who had dropped out of school. These children were at risk of falling into child labor, anti-social activities, or early marriages. In response, Vonisha’s team reached out to these families, offering counseling and encouraging them to reintegrate their children into formal education. The survey was carried out in the urban slums, particularly in the Begur area, where Vonisha's volunteers engaged with migrant families to raise awareness about the critical importance of education and the opportunities available to their children.

Bridge Program

The Vonisha Service Foundation's Bridge Program has been instrumental in addressing educational gaps for out-of-school children and dropouts since 2017. In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, many children from low-income families, particularly those in first-generation learner households, faced barriers to rejoining formal education. With many parents unable to pay school fees, children in the 6-14 age group became dropouts again, and some were forced into child labor or early marriages. To combat this, Vonisha launched its After School Program (ASP) to support these children once they are mainstreamed into formal schools. The ASP provides curriculum reinforcement from 3:30 to 5:00 pm, ensuring students continue their learning outside regular school hours. Since 2019, Vonisha has partnered with St. Ignatius Public School and Kidz in Begur to run its Bridge Program, which helps these children transition to formal schooling. In 2022, a collaboration with Dream India Network enabled the operationalization of St. Ignatius School, providing free quality education to over 200 underprivileged children. For older students (Grade 8 and above), Vonisha also enrolled them in the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), offering a path to uninterrupted education. Through its ongoing efforts, Vonisha ensures that no child falls through the cracks, empowering them with the education and support needed to break the cycle of poverty.

Teachers Workshops (2024-2025)

Vonisha Service Foundation organized a series of enriching professional development workshops in mid-2024, aimed at empowering teachers and NGO members. The Art of Living Workshop in July focused on stress reduction and mental well-being, incorporating meditation techniques like Sudarshan Kriya and sessions on the 5 Elements and Consciousness. The Teach For India Online Training in July prepared new Fellows for their teaching journey, enhancing their understanding of Teach For India’s mission. Later in July, the Pedagogy Workshop at St. Ignatius School, led by Dr. Muthu Ruben, emphasized the importance of good manners, creativity, and meaningful guidance in teaching. In August, the Upskilling Workshop was held at St. Ignatius School, with Dr. Sandeep sharing insights on leadership, overcoming stage fear, and teamwork, providing teachers with essential skills for both personal growth and student development. Each event focused on advancing the professional capabilities of the Vonisha community, equipping educators with the tools to enhance their teaching practices and leadership potential.

Teachers Workshops (2023-2024)

Vonisha Service Foundation organized a series of impactful professional development sessions for teachers throughout 2023 and 2024. These included a Teacher's Awareness Session in November 2023, led by Co-founder Dr. Nagasubramaniam, offering motivational tips to improve teaching efficiency. In January 2024, Mrs. Geetha, an experienced educationist, conducted a workshop focused on enhancing teaching skills and leadership. The Foundation also organized programs on computer skills, team building, financial literacy, and reporting/documentation, equipping educators with essential tools for both personal and professional growth. Workshops on human trafficking, sexual harassment, and domestic violence awareness were held to address critical social issues and empower teachers to make a positive impact in their communities. Additionally, a professional photo session was held to help teachers improve their documentation skills, while specific sessions on cursive writing and storytelling provided engaging methods to enhance classroom teaching. Each event focused on creating a dynamic, well-rounded educational experience for teachers, fostering continuous development and leadership within the Vonisha community.

Tailoring Class

Vonisha Service Foundation launched a Women Empowerment Project in 2022, offering free tailoring classes to equip women with essential skills. The program provides comprehensive training in tailoring, including the use of machinery, tools, and materials, enabling women to gain sustainable livelihoods. Through this vocational training, women will achieve independence, live with dignity, and improve their economic status. The basic and advanced courses aim to create self-employment opportunities, allowing women to either start their own businesses or secure jobs in the garment industry.

Project Sakhi

On February 18th, 2024, Vonisha Service Foundation organized the Sakhi program for underprivileged women at the Bettadasanapura Centre, attended by 15 women. The event began with a lamp lighting ceremony by our esteemed Chief Guest, Mrs. Parvati Karthi. The program, hosted by Mrs. Manjula, a dedicated social worker at Vonisha Service Foundation, focused on educating the women about health and hygiene in their environment. Mrs. Karthi shared valuable insights on managing financial challenges, boosting personal savings, and the importance of children's education and scholarship opportunities. The session was interactive, with the women actively participating, asking questions, and sharing their struggles. Mrs. Parvathi also addressed their concerns, and a token of appreciation was presented to her by Vonisha Service Foundation. To conclude the event, cakes and chocolates were distributed to all attendees, leaving everyone with a sense of joy and accomplishment.

Health Camps

The Vonisha Service Foundation has been dedicated to serving the community for over seven years, with a strong focus on supporting underprivileged students through various initiatives. These initiatives include the Early Child Care & Education Program, Remedial Learning Program, NIOS Program, and School Finishing Program, all of which benefit students at St. Ignatius School in Begur. In 2019, the foundation partnered with healthcare providers to organize specialized health camps. This collaboration featured an Eye Screening Camp with Narayana Nethralaya and a Dental Camp with doctors from Dr. Shyamala Reddy Dental College. These camps offered eye screenings and dental check-ups for underprivileged students and their families. After the screenings, the foundation distributed free spectacles to those in need. On July 2, 2022, Dr. Naga Subramaniam, Co-Founder of Vonisha Service Foundation, conducted a First Aid Training Class for NIOS and BSP students at St. Ignatius School, Begur. In December 2022, Vonisha Service Foundation, in partnership with Sree Charitable Trust, organized a Free Health Screening Camp for the local community. In 2023, Vonisha Service Foundation collaborated with Doc Care to conduct a Free Eye Screening Camp and General Health Check-up for children.

Theni Tribal Children School Finishing Program

Tribal Children School Finishing Program, Theni Dt.,Tamilnadu 2022-2024

The Vonisha School Finishing Education Program, located in Theni District, Tamil Nadu, runs from 2022 to 2024, offering classes from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The program aims to provide comprehensive educational support for school completion and higher education. Sponsored by DOVER India Ltd and Toyota, it has benefited 54 tribal students across four batches, with 47 successfully completing the program. Since 2017, Vonisha has worked to bridge educational gaps for out-of-school children, addressing issues like dropout rates due to low-income backgrounds. Collaborating with Grandpa Tutorial College, the program enables students to register for exams as private candidates. This initiative continues to empower tribal youth in the region.

Digital Literacy Project

The Vonisha Service Foundation’s Digital Literacy Program aims to equip students from Classes 3 to 10 with essential computer skills, preparing them for future educational and career opportunities. With 150 students enrolled across classes 3 to 8, the program has provided hands-on learning experiences over 95 days, with an attendance rate of 70%. The program’s student-to-laptop ratio of 2:1 ensured that each student received personalized attention during practical sessions. By utilizing interactive and engaging methods, the program has successfully introduced young learners to the basics of digital literacy. With continued support and investment, the initiative is poised to further enhance students' digital competence, empowering them to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Volunteer Engagement Programs

The Vonisha Service Foundation's Volunteer Engagement Program collaborates with local and international volunteers to enrich the educational experience of students. Through partnerships with organizations like Christ University, the program brings a variety of engaging activities to schools, including storytelling, interactive games, and skill-building workshops. These activities not only enhance the children's creativity, teamwork, and physical fitness but also provide valuable life skills like communication and listening. Volunteers dedicate their time and resources to creating a positive, supportive learning environment that inspires both academic and personal growth. The program continues to make a lasting impact on students, fostering a sense of community and collaboration that supports their overall development.

Community Visit by Program Coordinators

In July 2024, Miss Maisy and Miss Lily from the Alphabet Club, UK, visited India to volunteer with the Vonisha Service Foundation. As part of their program, they joined the Project Manager and Coordinator on several field visits to engage with local communities and gain firsthand insight into their needs. On July 23, the team visited the Government School in Chikkabegur, where they interacted with students and observed the educational environment. They also visited the Hulimavu Slum, gaining a deeper understanding of the living conditions and challenges faced by the community. The next day, they explored the Anganwadi center in Hulimavu, learning about early childhood education programs, and concluded with a visit to Vishwapriya Slum, further immersing themselves in the local context to support the Foundation’s community outreach efforts.

Back to School Program Grade 1-8

In the heart of urban slums, our team actively engages with migrant families to raise awareness about educational opportunities. We focus on supporting the holistic development of children who have either dropped out of school or are at risk of doing so. Our project aims to provide assistance to children under six years old, particularly targeting siblings of school dropouts or out-of-school children aged 6 to 14. Through personalized guidance and monitoring, we strive to ensure that these children can access education and thrive in their learning environments.

Parent Teacher Meeting

The Vonisha Service Foundation's Education Programs for 2024-2025 include several initiatives: Early Child Care and Education, Remedial Learning (OBE) at multiple centers, Back to School for Grades 1-8, and 10th grade programs under NIOS and KSEEB. Students' abilities are assessed through quarterly summative assessments and half-yearly/annual formative exams. Prior to these assessments, class teachers hold Parents-Teachers Meetings to discuss students' academic and overall performance. These meetings also facilitate feedback from parents, ensuring collaboration in student progress. The foundation aims to enhance educational outcomes and support student development.

Exams (2024)

The Vonisha Service Foundation is conducting periodic exams to assess students' academic abilities and reinforce their knowledge across all subjects. The SA 1 exams took place in July 2024, followed by the Formative 1 assessments in September 2024.

Co-Curricular Activity

In July 2024, Level A students in the Remedial Learning (OBE) Program created apple crafts using red paper bits. Level B students crafted colorful bows with paper bits, showcasing their creativity. Meanwhile, Level C students designed vibrant paper umbrellas using colored paper and sticks. In August, Level C students gathered leaves from trees to create art pieces featuring a rat and a beautiful peacock. In September, students from the Early Child Care & Education Program used forks to draw colorful flowers with leaves, further enhancing their artistic skills.

Celebrations (2024)

In 2024, the Vonisha Service Foundation organized vibrant celebrations that engaged students in various cultural activities. The festivities kicked off on July 27 with the Early Child Care & Education Program's Blue Color Day, where students dressed in blue, enhancing their color recognition and creating a calming atmosphere. On August 15, Independence Day was celebrated with esteemed guests and student performances, fostering patriotism and community spirit. Friendship Day on August 3 featured Remedial Learning Program children crafting and exchanging friendship bands, promoting values of gratitude and affection. The Raksha Bandhan celebrations on August 19 saw students creating colorful Rakhis, emphasizing the importance of love and protection among siblings. The month concluded with a "Pratibha Karanji" event on August 30, encouraging students from grades 1-5 to showcase their skills in friendly competitions. Other notable celebrations included Teacher's Day on September 5, Onam on September 14, and Dussehra on October 4, all of which enriched the students' educational experiences and fostered cultural appreciation and community bonds within the foundation.

Field Trip

The Vonisha Service Foundation organized an exciting field trip for Back to School Program students to Bannerghatta Biological Park during the 2017-2018 academic year. Sponsored by BEETF for facilitation support and the Lions Club HSR for transportation, the educational trip was both enjoyable and informative. Students had a fantastic time learning while having fun, and those from underprivileged backgrounds were especially grateful for the opportunity. They expressed their thanks to the sponsors and the Vishvesvaraya Museum for providing free entry passes. It was truly a memorable day for both students and teachers alike.

Cooking Without Fire Competition

Vonisha Service Foundation held a Cooking Without Fire Competition for Back to School Program students at St. Ignatius School in Begur. Students showcased their culinary creativity by preparing a variety of dishes, including bread jam, sandwiches, sweet poha, bhel puri, spicy tomato salad, healthy moong sprouts salad, cucumber-carrot salad, fruit salads, and fruit juices. The judges were truly impressed by the students' ingenuity and presentation.

HSR Half Marathon

On February 25, 2024, the Vonisha Service Foundation hosted a half marathon at the HSR Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Bangalore, running from 5 AM to 10 AM. The event featured a variety of races, including a 21K run, 10K run, 5K run, and a 3K fun run for young runners aged 8 and above, who participated alongside their parents. To ensure safety, volunteers, cycle marshals, and medical teams were present to manage any emergencies, and hydration stations were set up along the course. Participants displayed great enthusiasm, making the event enjoyable for all. Winners were awarded trophies and e-certificates, while every participant received a medal for their efforts. Overall, the marathon fostered community spirit and encouraged fitness among families and individuals alike.
